[April ice paddle]  
In a week that started with snow and ended with spring, we at last got our kayaks out and paddled through a very icy but sun-drenched Saturday afternoon. The main floes were thick and impassable but nothing a quick portage couldn't get around. What was extraordinary was a basin filled with ice needles - like paddling through a crusty crunchy slush puppy. Roll on the summer.
